Schools and safety education

School - Keep ClearStaying safe is one of the five key areas in Every Child Matters, and it is very important that we ensure the safety of our young people. This, however, should not be done at the expense of the other four areas.

For children and young people to properly be healthy, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well-being, while staying safe, they will need to learn to make informed decisions and think critically.

You can help your children succeed by providing them with the backbone of knowledge they need to support the decisions they make, and, most importantly, they need to be able to practice making real decisions in real situations with real consequences.

This can be done in a variety of situations that pupils may find themselves in, and opportunities to practise and develop such skills will present themselves daily in school life, particularly with the development of the Learning Outside the Classroom, Healthy Schools and Sustainable Schools agendas, and the new curricula.

CSEC can help you to develop these risk competencies in your children. Our co-ordinators can work with you to develop, pilot, assess and evaluate practical resources for developing risk competencies. For more information, contact us.
