DirectGov - Fire Kills
This site contains a lot of useful information and advice relating to fire safety. There are also various educational materials available for download, and information about how to arrange a free home fire safety visit from your local Fire and Rescue Service.
Children's Burns Trust
The Children’s Fire and Burns Trust, raises awareness of the danger of burns and scalds, work with health professionals to provide direct help and funding for children who have suffered burns and scalds, and provides advice and financial support to families and hospitals. Their website contains information about the causes and treatment of burns and a variety of interactive learning resources in the Learning Zone.
Electrical Safety Council
The Electrical Safety Council (ESC) is an independent charity committed to reducing deaths and injuries through electrical accidents at home and at work. Two Thirty Volts is their online resource for young people aged 11 to 16 which covers essential tips for electrical safety advice for both home and abroad, along with some useful revision guides covering all things electrical. For younger children aged 4-11, Switched On Kids is a good fun, visual website which looks at where electricity comes from and electrical safety around the home.
DirectGovKids
This site contains an interactive town to explore with lots of things to learn about along the way. If you click on the hospital, and then the book on the desk, it will take you to a variety of safety activities and learning resources including a house of hazards and a fire station.
Riskwatch
RiskWatch is an avoidable injury awareness program. The aims of the program are to make children more aware of the dangerous situations and equip them with life skills that can help to keep them safe.
Central Networks
Central Networks are the electricity distribution company for central England and believe that educating children to stay safe around electrical equipment is extremely important. The Power Discovery Zone is a resource for teachers and pupils, helping to educate children about staying safe around electricity through fun features such as games, experiments and fact files. There is also a teachers' zone with downloadable teaching resources and curriculum links.
Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT)
The Child Accident Prevention Trust is the UK’s leading charity working to reduce the number of children and young people killed, disabled or seriously injured in accidents. They have a wide variety of information and resources available through their website, including information about burns and scalds.
StayWise
StayWise collates existing educational resources from emergency services and other agencies from around the country and makes them available through their website. Teachers can browse their libraries and schemes of work and use the activities and resources. Emergency service personnel can also see what teachers are doing and within their section discover how they can play their part in these lessons too.
International Burn Injury Database
This site contains information about the common causations, susceptible age and social groups and healthcare consequences of burn injuries. There is also information about how burn care services are assessed and about the work being done to stimulate the process of continual self-assessment and quality of care improvement.
Fire Statistics Monitors
The Fire Statistics Monitors provide quarterly statistics on fires, casualties and false alarms attended by fire and rescue services in the United Kingdom.
