Groups, clubs and safety education
Leisure time is a very important part of a young person’s life. It is where they can explore the things they are most interested in, develop friendships and abilities, and learn a wide variety of important life skills without even realising it.
No matter what sort of club you are running, there will be scope to include practical safety education in your typical activities. This could be short inputs such as:
- Discussing the river or road running beside the football pitch
- Practising road safety on the way to the park
- Looking at the safety signs and symbols you see on your journeys
- Developing your own rules for you club
Or it could be from longer activities such as:
- Taking part in adventurous activities and discussing the inherent hazards and risks involved
- Writing and performing warning adverts for fire safety, road safety, home safety etc
- Playing games which teach you how to respond in an emergency
- Working towards a safety or adventurous activity interest badge
CSEC can help you to develop risk competencies in your children. Our co-ordinators can work with you to develop, pilot, assess and evaluate practical resources for developing risk competencies. For more information, contact us.
